Orkney Trip 2006

Orkney
March 2006

After meeting Clair, the County Commissioner for Orkney, at the Project 50k weekend Laura and I were invited up to talk to their Senior Section members about Polaris. The visit was only going to be for one night and it would be a whistle stop tour at that. We were to run 3 sessions with Elizabeth on a combination of Polaris, Senior Section opportunities and the Right Now resource.

We flew out of Glasgow, with Elizabeth, on the Saturday morning and arrived on the Orkney mainland in time for lunch with Clair and some of the County Executive. From there it was straight into the first session and group of mostly leaders were gathered to hear about the program. Laura and I got the chance to do our own presentation, similar to the one we gave at the 50k weekend. It all went down really well and everyone left with leaflets and our own special bookmarks.

Next up was an evening meeting with a group of Senior Section members including Rangers and Young Leaders. They joined in with some activities from the Right Now resource before eating and talking our way though a selection of cakes and treats. Before retiring to bed we went to play a frame of 10-pin bowling with some of Orkney's finest Guiders.

Next morning we were off again to the last of our trainings meeting more of the Senior Section members on the other side of the mainland. Lastly we were taken on a guided tour of the mainland by Clair before returning to the airport and flying back home.
