From Back To Beyond

Edinburgh
1st March 2008

Our day event in 2008 was in Edinburgh City Centre! It was a great day and the sun stayed out for us! To start the day we walked along Princes Street and worked our way through the A-Z, we had to spot something beginning with every letter of the alphabet. It wasn't quite as easy as it sounds but got us all chatting. A few of us actually managed it before we got to our destination; Edinburgh's own Georgian House. We split into 2 groups and worked our way about the house, which was really interesting. Some of us got to try on some Georgian clothes and once all dressed up looked very fetching! Once we had had a good look about and learned how the rich Georgians lived we went to get lunch. Pizza Hut wasn't quite in keeping with our morning Georgian theme, but we enjoyed it! We also managed to get in some good chatting about Polaris and the Scottish |Senior Section stuff.

After we had all stuffed ourselves we headed out to the streets of Edinburgh, well Princes Street anyways. We split into 4 groups, and each got £5 for the £5 Challenge! We had to buy 5 items that made you think of the Guide promise or law. It got us all thinking about what GirlGuiding means to us and what the promise means to us. Then we got shopping! Everyone had really good ideas as to what the promise or law means to them but finding something to buy that means that is quite hard. Once all the groups had got their 5 items we met back up in a coffee shop and got something to drink and eat. We went round everyone to see what they bought and why, everyone had thought up of great ideas and explanations of why they bought it.

We then went on to do Post-it ideas! Everyone got post-its and a question they had to write 2 or 3 answers to. We asked various questions, including: about where would be a good place for Polaris to meet again; where would you like polaris to go internationally; if you could say one thing to Scottish Guiding and it was listened to what would it be; one change you want to see in the world; What do you want to do with Polaris? These are things we need to know that let us plan things you want to do! There were some great suggestions, so keep your eyes and ears open!
