Ambassadors' Reception

Edinburgh
19th November 2006

When I first received a letter in the post saying that someone had nominated me to attend Girlguiding Scotland’s grand reception for external supporters I did not know much about it or why I had been put forward but I was keen to do the best job I could to promote Girlguiding. The event, called ‘Meet the Girls’, was mainly aimed at the Ambassadors of Girlguiding: people who have been recommended as those who promote Girlguiding for example through their professional roles. These people include MPs and religious leaders. The aim was to pass on to them the enthusiasm that Guide and Senior Section girls have for what they do and give the Ambassadors something to go home and shout about. People came from all over Scotland to the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh for the reception.

In addition to Claire and myself from Polaris, there were other girls including In4mers, those who had gone on international camps, Young Leaders and Lones. Since there was a disappointing turnout from the Ambassadors there was plenty of opportunity to get to know the other girls and we all had a good time together. There were also a few Trefoil Guild people present, who turned out to be very entertaining.

A booklet had been made of all the girls present and what they were speaking about. Even for someone like myself who is very into Guiding it made fascinating reading as it highlighted all the great opportunities that are available and it was great to be able to speak to the people that actually do them. As Polaris, Claire and I did what we could to get our name out there to the other members of Girlguiding Scotland as well as to the Ambassadors.

The event was enjoyable for me as a participant and I think those Ambassadors that attended also appreciated it. It was a good chance to meet new people and catch up with old friends and see what exciting things are going on in other part of our organisation. As a thank you for coming we were all given a Girlguiding Scotland tartan mug to take away.
